The Westport Sunrise Rotary Club held a Food Drive for the Norwalk Open Door Shelter and the Westport Woman's Club Food Closet on Saturday at the Super Stop & Shop on Post Road East.
Club members asked shoppers entering the store to add one or more nonperishable items to their shopping lists and drop donations off on their way out. Shoppers responded generously, leaving 197 bags of canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, rice and pasta and paper goods and other food preparation disposables.
"We thank everyone who supported this drive," said George Masumian, who heads the Club's Food Drive program. "The overwhelmingly generous support of shoppers made this drive highly successful for the Open Door Shelter and Woman's Club's Food Closet, as well as a rewarding day for Sunrise Rotary."
