5 Things All About Westport: August 11

Farmer's market today, soprano Jodi Keogan at the Levitt and more.

  • What’s the best place to find fresh, locally grown corn, tomatoes, lettuce and other vegetables? The , of course. The market will be open today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Imperial Avenue Commuter Lot — and every Thursday until Nov. 3. This is in addition to Westport’s other farmer’s market, held at the Saugatuck Congregational Church on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Tonight at the its soprano Jodi Keogan, delivering “an enchanting evening of Broadway and opera with dazzling vocals by this award winning lyric spinto soprano and her gifted musical collaborators.” The free concert starts at 8 p.m.
  • David Brant, executive director of the Aspetuck Land Trust, will discuss “Land Preservation in Fairfield County” at 6 p.m. tonight at Sherwood Island. This educational program is being presented as part of the Friends of Sherwood Island State Park’s Sunset Lecture Series.
  • The Westport Library’s Sizzling Summer Film Series will screen the film “Topper” from 2 to 4 p.m. in the McManus Room. “Topper, is the first — and funniest —  of these popular films with Cary Grant and Constance Bennett at their romantic comedy '30s best,” states the library’s website. The 1937 film stars Roland Young, Billie Burke, Alan Mowbray, Eugene Pallette and Hedda Hopper. It spawned two sequels and a TV series.
  • Later in the day, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., the Westport Library will present the foreign film “Biutiful,” also in the McManus room. Nominated for Best Foreign Film, it “is a gorgeous, melancholy movie about love, fatherhood, and guilt.” The film is in Spanish with English Subtitles.
