5 Things All About Westport: June 22

Staples' Class of 2011 graduates, Board of Selectmen to meet, a preview of the Westport Country Playhouse's birthday party and more

  • Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2011 at Staples High School will commence at 2 p.m. in the field house on the school’s North Avenue campus. The weather forecast is calling for a chance of thunderstorms — hopefully the grads and everyone else will stay dry!
  • The Board of Selectmen will meet at 4:30 p.m. at Town Hall. The board is expected to approve a funding agreement between the Town and the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, as it relates to the survey of historic buildings project. In addition the board is expected to approve an agreement between the Town and Tod Bryant d/b/a Heritage Resources as it relates to consulting services for the preparation of a Historic Property Study Report.
  • Westport’s U-11 girls soccer team has been crowned joint state champions after a hard-fought Connecticut Cup final ended tied after two overtime periods. Patch has the coverage .
  • The Westport Country Playhouse will be celebrating its 80th birthday next Wednesday, June 29, with a special party featuring cake, champagne and balloons. The theater officially opened its doors June 29, 1931 and welcomed audiences to its first production, “The Streets of New York,” starring Dorothy Gish.   • Prizewinners in the teen “4-Way” Poster-Design Contest co-sponsored by Westport Sunrise Rotary and Westport Public Library were announced this past Saturday, June 18, at the Westport Public Library. To learn who won, and what they won, .
