Falling Tree Injures Infant, Driver on Merritt Parkway

The Merritt Parkway accident hospitalized two people and shut down the southbound lane.

A falling tree on the Merritt Parkway caused minor injuries to a baby and a driver on Monday. Both people were transported to Bridgeport Hospital.

According to the Westport Fire Department, the call was received at 7:21 p.m. The tree fell on the southbound lane in the area of exit 42, crushing the Toyota Avalon’s roof several inches, breaking out several windows and puncturing the radiator.

Firefighters from Westport and Fairfield used chainsaws to remove the tree, which blocked both lanes. The vehicle was towed and the last firefighter left the scene at 8:25 p.m.
