Westport's Newest Yoga Studio Offers High-Tech Workout

The newest pilates and yoga studio in town sits directly on the Saugatuck River in Bridge Square and will offer roof-top classes on its patio during the summer.

The first thing you notice when you walk into Saugatuck Studios is the magnificent view of the Saugatuck River behind the state of the art Power Plate machines that are specifically designed to enhance ones workout and stretch using advanced vibration technology.

Studio owner Fran Hoyte offers pilates, yoga, Power Plate pilates, educational programs and massage therapy with instructors and massage therapists who have been in the business for years. From an educational standpoint, Saugatuck Studios is certified to teach pilates and apparatus. Their spring semester is nearly full, but Hoyte said they will be offering classes during the fall semester.

Hoyte, a scientist by trait who was a chemist years ago, continues to do clinical research and consults for pharmaceutical companies.

“In my clinical research background, the data we saw for the clinical trial for the Power Plate was impressive,” Hoyte said.

The business owner and East Norwalk resident said she used to travel far to use Power Plates so she eventually decided to purchase her own.

“They’re finding that they are able to get clients in positions so much quicker and so much safer than without Power Plates,” Hoyte said. “Their stretches are deeper; their strength training is much more efficient.”

The 1,000 square-foot studio, located in walking distance from the Saugatuck Train Station, has a shower to accommodate commuters who go directly to work following their morning workout.

“We have some folks who come for a half hour three times a week, grab a shower, grab their cup of coffee at Dunkin Donuts and they go to their train,” Hoyte said, noting out-of-towners have taken a liking to the spot as well. "They like how easy it is off exit 17 -- they don’t have to do any back road driving. We are so close off I-95.”

Though parking is tight in front of the studio located at 17 Bridge Square, parking is always available across the street at . For more information on Saugatuck Studios or to book a session, visit PowerPlatePilates.com, email info@PowerPlatePilates.com, or call 203-807-8160.
