Pedestrian Hit By SUV, Driver Issued Infraction [Update]

The driver apparently did not see the pedestrian.

Update Feb. 23

According to police, the driver of the SUV was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The infraction involves a fine and the addition of three points to the driver's license. While the victim's injuries appeared serious, she was treated at Norwalk Hospital and went home later on Tuesday.

A woman walking on the the Post Road East crosswalk near Starbucks was seriously injured when an SUV hit her at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

“It doesn’t appear to be life threatening, said Lt. Arthur Belile, who was investigating the accident with other police officers. “It looks like there will be serious injuries.”

The woman was transported to Norwalk Hospital.

According to Belile, it appears the driver failed to see the pedestrian when the GMC Denali turned left onto Post Road East from Parker Harding Plaza.

The accident is  under investigation by the Westport Police Department's Patrol Division. Part of Post Road East was closed and traffic was rerouted through Main Street, Wilton Road and Riverside Avenue. The road reopened at approximately 10 a.m.
