On Friday, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced a proposal to continue the process he began last year to downsize state government. Malloy said in a statement that the state agency consolidations will allow state government “to continue to get smaller, leaner, and more effective.”
“Last year we began the work of changing how the state does business—making government smaller, less costly, and easier to navigate,” said Malloy. “Like companies and families across the state and the country, state government must do more with less. This session we are continuing the effort to ensure government is working as efficiently as possible.”
In his first year in office, Malloy reduced state agencies by 30 percent through mergers and consolidations – going from 81 separate line-item state agencies to 59. Today’s announcement reduces that number to 52.
The Governor will submit legislation in February detailing these proposed consolidations.

If someone care to to the research they should look at the size of CT state government compared to NY state government. On a per capita basis we have more state workers who are on average paid more highly than NY state workers. In addition state workers have better health care and retirement plans than most of the citizens in the state. This is clearly a place to begin the streamlining.

This very tiny, token effort towards "shrinking the size of government" is proof that Malloy hasn't a clue just how badly his tax increases and concessions to public sector unions have damaged CT's economy!
He's trying to pretend that he's going to get the budget under control, in a similar fashion to how Obama ramped up the DEBT 5 TRILLION $$$ in 3 years--and is now (again) talking--making empty promises--to "eliminate waste" and cut duplicative programs.
Malloy and Obama are full of empty talk and broken promises!
