Westport Man Robs Trumbull Couple at Knifepoint

A Westport man allegedly wielding a knife robbed a married couple of a purse in the driveway of the couple's Gray Rock Road home early Saturday.

Police said the couple identified the robber as Sean Michael Delaney Kosmicki, 20, of Lockwood Circle, Westport. Sergio Paul, 19, of Gray Rock Road (who lived in a neighboring home), was also arrested after he was found with some of the stolen property, police said.

The couple told officers that Kosmicki, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and covering part of his face, approached them before 1 a.m., brandished a knife and demanded all of the of victims' property.  

The couple complied and Kosmicki ran away, police said. One of the victims called 911, which brought several officers and Cyrus the police dog to their home.

Based on the couple's description of the Kosmicki, Cyrus quickly tracked the suspect to Paul's home on Gray Rock Road. There the officers saw Kosmicki rummaging through the stolen purse, police said.

Kosmicki then ran into a furnace room within the basement, where he surrendered after Cyrus was released to help apprehend him. The suspect suffered a dog bite to his knee for which he was treated at a local hospital and released back into police custody.

After a further search police located Paul and found him with stolen items from the robbery, police said. All items taken were recovered as well as the knife.

Kosmicki is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and single counts of fifth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, and possession of narcotics. He is being held of $250,000 bond.

Paul is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny and possession of narcotics. He was held in lieu of $150,000 bond.

"The quick apprehension of the suspects can be credited to the rapid response of the patrol units, dissemination of the suspects’ description and direction of travel, as well as the effectiveness of ‘cyrus’, trumbull’s K-9," said Deputy Police Chief Michael Harry.
