Westport PAL Ice Rink Opens

Open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today

The Westport Police Athletic League's ice rink is open for business.

The rink, owned by the PAL and operated by Tony Lantier of Thin Ice Management, is in its 13th season.

The Westport PAL provides athletic programs for the community's youth. The town of Westport's Parks and Recreation Department uses the rink to offer ice skating lessons. It's also available for open skating.

Here's what's new at the rink this year, according to the rink's Web site:

  • There's new boards with glass around the rink, as well as a brand new full-sized Zamboni donated by the Gault family.
  • The rink is 15% bigger.
  • There's new refridgeration mats under the ice that help ensure a better quality of ice.
