Give a Little This Earth Day

Earth Day is here! Have your kids think about what they can do to help the planet.

Back in 1970 Earth Day was created to draw attention to the pollution created in our air and in our water.  Each year on April 22nd, we celebrate Earth Day to remind kids and adults alike of environmental concerns and encourage action to help preserve our planet.

Kids can do a lot to help the earth.  This Earth Day, have your kids make a promise about what they can do better in the coming year to reduce, reuse and recycle.  It could be as simple as turning the lights off when they leave a room, conserving paper when drawing, or using reusable water bottles instead of plastic ones.

Family activities could include: planting trees, flowers, or a vegetable garden.  Improve upon what your family recycles - take those bottles back to the store for a refund and use the change to plant more trees.  Go to a local park or beach and help with clean up.  Investigate ways to save energy in your house by replacing old appliances, changing to energy efficient lightbulbs or sealing leaks to conserve heat/air conditioning.  Ride bikes instead of using the car.

If your kids are inspired to write a story about how to help the planet, visit http://www.scribblitt.com, a website where kids can write, illustrate and publish their own books.  They can enter the Scribblitt Earth Day Writing Contest and help the earth.  For every 1 Scribblitt book published in April, Scribblitt will plant 1 tree. One For One!

Celebrate our earth and help create the next caring generation.
