Family Y Opens Pools to Public

The Family Y will serve as a cooling station for those seeking relief from temperatures forecasted to approach 100 degrees on Thursday. The Family Y welcomes the public to swim free of charge in its Stauffer Shallows Pool Thursday, June 21, from 1 to 4 pm, and its Brophy Pool from 2 pm to 9:30 pm.

A heat advisory for Southern Fairfield County has been issued by the National Weather Service and will remain in effect until 7 pm on Thursday. The National Weather Service urges the public to take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening; know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke; and drink plenty of water.

“Our pools and air-conditioned areas inside the Y should provide great relief at the hottest time of the day,” says Nicole Turechek, Aquatic Director. “And though we have a busy day scheduled — with our Camp Hafaday for young kids from 8:45 am until 12:45 pm, and a Water Rat swim meet that starts at 4 pm — there’s still plenty of water to go around. Our Family Y is happy to help those in need during such oppressive weather conditions.”
