Rock and Roll Camp to Open in Westport

Two accomplished musicians in Westport are offering the town's first "Rock and Roll Camp.”

Jeff Moss and Sam Abelow, both Staples graduates who live in town, will be teaching those interested in learning to play the guitar, bass or keys in a live performance setting. From chords to lyrics to performance, students will learn the basics as well as the advanced techniques taught by these 21 year old musicians. The Rock Camp promises to be educational, as well as lots of fun for music enthusiasts, who will put on a performance for their parents on the final Friday night of the program.

The camp will be held at 23 Grove Point Rd, near Compo Beach in Westport. The location allows for the kids to spend a half hour eating lunch outside on the Mill Pond, while listening to music and brainstorming ideas for their band.

There will be two sessions; one in July, and one in August. The sessions are July 16 to 27 and from August 13 to 24, and will be every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12-3:30pm. While learning will be a top feature of the camp, fun will be at the top of the list as well.

Sam Abelow's nom de plum is Rosko Taint, and he has three albums currently on iTunes. Sam has performed throughout the region including NYC, Westport and the Hamptons.

Jeff Moss is currently studying Music, Business and Psychology at NYU. He has performed at many different local events including EcoFest, Earth Day at the Nature Center, as well as Battle of the Bands at Westport’s First Night, where his band “In Flight Radio” came out victorious in 2006 while freshmen at Staples. Jeff went on to teach guitar lessons throughout high school to young beginner students.

Sam plays guitar, percussion and keyboard, and Jeff plays guitar, bass and keyboard. The two of them will tech the students how to play some Rock and Roll classics, and will give focused lessons on different aspects of musicianship such as soloing, song structure and lyric writing.

Space is limited, so the teachers advise signing up as soon as possible. Registration will be rolling, but interested musicians and parents should not waste time signing up! Tuition is $350/session.
