The Westport Arts Center (WAC) will launch its fall exhibition, “Home Sweet Home” on Friday, September 20 at 6pm.
Following the success of last summer’s juried members' exhibition with over 160 applicants, “Foodies” highlighted the best of the area’s artists with 70 artworks that dynamically depicted the theme of food. This year, the Westport Arts Center looks to draw in even more applicants with a theme that is sure to “hit home.”
Whether portrayed in a painting, photograph, sculpture, drawing, or video, the concept of “home” is both intimate and universal. It can be a state of mind and evoke a full spectrum of emotions, thoughts, memories, and images. “Home” is a theme that can vary greatly in interpretation, yet is of the utmost importance to all human beings, no matter where they are.
Juried by Jennifer Gross, Chief Curator and Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum and previously the Seymour H. Knox, Jr. Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Yale University Art Gallery, “Home Sweet Home” will feature works in a variety of media that depict different interpretations and representations of “home.”
An opening reception for the exhibition will be held on Friday, September 20 from 6 - 8pm at the Westport Arts Center. Free and open to the public, this event will feature a live DJ along with food and beverage. The exhibition is sponsored by Gault Energy and Bernstein Global Wealth Management with support from Connecticut Office of the Arts.
