Hope in Motion Sponsors Annual Bloomin' Metric, Organizations Combine Cycling Events

Stamford Hospital’s Hope in Motion organizers announced today that it will be a major sponsor of Fairfield County-based Sound Cyclists Bike Club. As such, starting this year, participants supporting the annual Hope in Motion bicycle ride will join cycling enthusiasts at the popular Sound Cyclists Bloomin’ Metric Bicycle Tour, which is replacing the annual Hope in Motion Event. The Bloomin’ Metric is on Sunday, June 1, at Sherwood Island in Westport.

“By becoming part of the Bloomin’ Metric, we are able to leverage two great events and offer cyclists one of the most challenging and picturesque rides on the East coast,” said Kari Pollak, Manager of Special Events, Stamford Hospital Foundation. “This will not only enhance the experience for the many loyal riders who have participated in Hope in Motion in previous years, but will significantly expand the ridership on behalf of the Bennett Cancer Center.”

Individuals can register for the Bloomin’ Metric, a fully supported cycling event with 25-, 47.6- or 62.1-mile routes, at www.bloominmetric.com. Participants who are interested in riding to support Hope in Motion and the Bennett Cancer Center can start a team, join a team or fundraise as an individual with no additional fee by visiting www.hopeinmotion.org after they have registered for the Bloomin’ Metric. There is also an option to donate to Hope in Motion while registering for the Bloomin' Metric.

“The Bloomin’ Metric has truly evolved over its 37-year history, and attracts families and individual cycling enthusiasts of all skill levels from the Tri-state area and beyond,” said Bill Meredith, Bloomin’ Metric Director. “This year will be the start of a great union with the Hope in Motion event and we are very happy to support such a great fundraising opportunity for a wonderful organization.”

Hope in Motion is the year-round fundraising initiative for the Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital and offers the community a way to get involved, take a stand and make a difference. The initiative’s signature events, the Walk & Run, will also be held on June 1, 2014 at a separate event in Stamford. Other grassroots events are held throughout the year to help raise funds that directly support the vital programs and services that benefit the Bennett Cancer Center’s patients and their families. Similarly, Sound Cyclists Bike Club donates proceeds from the Bloomin’ Metric to a number of local community organizations, including North East Community Cycles, the Westport YMCA and volunteer EMS organizations located in towns in which the Club rides.
