Watermark University Summer 2014 Courses Open to Bridgeport-Area Seniors

The Watermark at 3030 Park is pleased to announce that its Watermark University Summer 2014 semester is underway, with course catalogs available to seniors living in the Greater Bridgeport area. Watermark University is a continuing education program that features diverse topics and programs designed to keep seniors’ minds and bodies fit. All of the classes are held at the senior-living community, located at 3030 Park Avenue on the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line.

 

“Watermark University is a great way for seniors in our area to stay active,” said Ed Roman, Executive Director of The Watermark at 3030 Park. “Our hope is that people will come out and participate in activities they love, while at the same time trying ones that are new and different for them.”

An upcoming “Fall Prevention” class with occupational therapist Charlene Hancock will take place Friday, July 11 at 1:30 p.m. Hancock will share simple and effective tips to reduce the risk of falling, and discuss how exercise, diet and home modifications can help prevent further injury. She will be able to answer questions from participants following the presentation.

As a special event, the professional, non-profit theater company Connecticut Free Shakespeare will rehearse their upcoming production of “As You Like It” on Sunday, July 20 at 3:30 p.m. The company produces professional works of classical theater that are accessible and imaginative for audiences of all ages, including those not familiar with Shakespeare’s work. This event is free and open to the public, with very limited seating. Anyone who would like to attend must RSVP by July 15 to Tracy-Ann Samuel at 203-373-6311.

 

Another course offering is “Conversational French,” held on Monday, July 16 and Wednesday, September 3 at 2:30 p.m. Both classes will be taught by educator and professional translator, Marjolijn de Jager, PhD. Both novice and expert speakers are invited to join in the conversation, as Marjolijn leads a comprehensive study of the French language.

 

Other class topics include fitness, music, travel and the arts. Most Watermark University classes are free of charge and open to the public by reservation only.
