Winter School Break Programs at the Y

The Westport Weston Family Y has scheduled a variety of special programs to keep kids occupied and having fun during the upcoming Winter School Break. Westport public schools will be closed Feb. 17-21; Weston schools are in recess on Feb. 17 and 18.

The vacation fun begins on Friday, Feb. 14, with Teen Night, when the Y turns into a clubhouse for middle-schoolers only. From 7:30-9:30 pm, local 6th-8th graders can enjoy basketball, swimming, bingo, ping pong and other games, plus karaoke, a new Teen Night highlight. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members; snacks and beverages are available for an additional charge. Click here to register online.

Starting Monday, Feb. 17, the Family Y’s popular Hafaday Swim Lesson Program for children ages 4 to 8 years old will take place from 8:45 am to 12:30 pm each day. The children have a swim lesson and free swim, plus arts/crafts and gym time, with a snack in between. The cost is $270 for Y members, $295 for non-members. To enroll your child, click here or contact Nicole Turechek for more information; 203-226-8981 or nturechek@westporty.org.

Young dancers ages 3-5 will be leaping and twirling through the basics of ballet and jazz at Princess Dance Camp, to be held Feb. 17-20, 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. There will be a new princess theme each day, along with a craft project related to each special princess guest. Ballet and jazz shoes are preferred but not required for this class, though please pack a snack and drink for your child. The fee is $200, and no Y membership is required. To register, click on this link. For details, contact Lillian Cenatiempo; lcenatiempo@westporty.org.

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, 8:30-9:30 am, Y members are invited to bring their children, ages 6 and up, to Perry Moody’s popular Insanity workout. Perry promises that her usual level of “Insanity” will be kid-friendly for the day!

And on Saturday, Feb. 22, local 4th-5th graders are invited to finish up their school break on a high night at Youth Night at the Y. As with Teen Night, kids can swim, shoot hoops and play ping pong, bingo and other games, from 7:30-9:30 pm. It’s a great way to hang with school chums or meet new friends. Click here to register online.

With the Y’s Winter Session youth classes on hiatus during the February school break, there will be additional open times for gym & swim at the Y; please visit http://www.westporty.org for the current schedules as well as to register online for the Y’s Winter School Break programs.
