A Neighbor with an Inoperable Brain Tumor Needs Your Help

You might have seen her face around town. Maybe she's driven your children to school. But now Lauren Scavo needs your helps.

A former bus driver who ran Girl Scout troops, volunteered in schools and volunteered for sports teams, Lauren Scavo is no stranger to the Redding community.

Now it's hoped the community will give back to her in her time of need.

Scavo was recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, according to fellow Redding resident Anne Young Albanese.

"She will be undergoing radiation treatment in the hopes of shrinking the tumor," Albanese wrote in a press release. "She is unable to work and her employer let her go without unemployment or disability."

Next weekend, a tag sale will be held at 710 Redding Road, the proceeds of which will be given to the Scavo family to help offset medical costs. It's scheduled to be held Friday, Oct. 12 from 9 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13 from 9 to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 14 from 9 to 3 p.m.

"Lauren has dedicated herself to supporting Redding for years and it is time for Redding to give back when the Scavos are in need," Albanese wrote. "The tag sale organizers are accepting donations for items to sell as well as hoping for residents to support the sale."

Lynn Longo, who organized the tag sale, said she hoped to see Redding residents help out their fellow neighbor.

“Lauren has been so active around town, I am really hoping Redding is ready to help pay her back for all of her dedication,” Longo said. “We really want to help ease the Scavos’ medical bills."

Those interested in donating items for the tag sale or volunteering there should contact Longo at 203.938.0712. People can drop off items at 710 Redding Road or call her to arrange someone to pick them up.
