Westport Hears Final Proposal for Downtown Redevelopment

The Downtown 2020 Committee heard the final design firm proposal for the redevelopment of Westport's central area at a Town Hall meeting Wednesday night.

Although Milon and MacBroom Inc., based in Chesire, has worked with the Downtown Merchants Association in the past, representatives said Wednesday the firm would be respectful to Westport stakeholders if selected for the redevelopment, according to a Westport News article.

The firm, with a plan that would cost $185,000, said that it would emphasize widespread community involvement through surveys in creating its plan to make sure it appeals to a variety of Westport residents, according to the article.

Milone and MacBroom Inc. was the final of three to propose its plan. The committee interviewed the first of the three firms, Peter J. Smith & Co. of Buffalo, N.Y., at the July 22 meeting. That firm's plan would cost nearly $169,000,

The committee then spoke to RBA Group of Connecticut, LLC, based in Norwalk, July 24. Its plan would cost $178,500.

Westport was awarded a $497,595 state grant for improving the town's downtown commercial infrastructure at the beginning of July.

The three are the finalists out of seven deign firms that expressed interest in the committee's request for proposals. When a final firm is chosen, its plan will then need to be approved by several town boards and commissions.

The Downtown 2020 Committee was appointed by First Selectman Gordon Joseloff in March 2012.
