Westport, Himes to Hold Post-Sandy Assistance Session With FEMA

New information is available regarding grants and low-interest loans to help elevate flood-prone homes.

 

Congressman Jim Himes along with the , Darien, Greenwich and Cities of Bridgeport and Norwalk, will hold an information session where representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small Business Administration (SBA) will outline the services they offer to those affected by Hurricane Sandy, including individual assistance for home owners and Physical Disaster Loans and Economic Injury Loans for businesses affected by the hurricane.

After the information session, there will be a break-out session where home and business owners will have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with representatives from FEMA, the SBA, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and other state, and federal agencies to discuss their individual cases. Officials from Bridgeport, Darien, Fairfield, Norwalk, Greenwich and Westport will also be on hand to answer municipality-specific questions about permitting and other requirements.

Homes and businesses located in flood-prone areas which were affected by Hurricane Sandy may be eligible for federal assistance for elevation. Business owners can apply for low-interest loans with the SBA.

Home owners can also apply for low-interest loans and grants for home elevation or repairs and additionally may eligible for FEMA displacement costs. If you already have flood insurance through FEMA you still are eligible for these programs. There will be on-site registration for FEMA and SBA assistance.
