Here's what's open, here's what's closed for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day in and around Westport.

Monday, New Year's Eve

OPEN Monday, Dec. 31:

  • Westport Public Library—until 6 p.m.
  • Connecticut state offices (see PDF of 2012 state holiday schedule attached to this article), except for the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles, which is normally closed on Monday.
  • Banks

CLOSED Monday:

  • Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (not normally open on Mondays)
  • Westport Public Schools closed the week of Christmas through Jan. 1, classes restart Jan. 2 (see PDF of school calendar attached to this article)

New Year's Day

The following are CLOSED New Year's Day:

  • Westport Public Schools closed the week of Christmas through Jan. 1, classes restart Jan. 2 (see PDF of school calendar attached to this article)
  • Westport Public Library
  • State government offices (PDF of 2013 state holiday schedule attached to this article)
  • Westport town government
  • Banks have the option of staying open or closed — in practice, all or nearly all are closed on New Year's Day (and this is one of the four holidays that even TD Bank is normally closed)

Metro-North Service

The following information is from the Metro-North website:

  • Monday, Dec. 31: "[T]o make sure you arrive wherever you need to be to ring in 2013, we will provide a Saturday schedule with extra service in the AM and PM peak periods, as well as additional inbound trains in the late afternoon/early evening, and our traditional post-midnight late night/early morning service to get you home safely.
