Joanna Gleason, Chris Sarandon, Brian J. Carter will join Melissa Joan Hart in the 'Any Wednesday' reading.

Tony Award winner Joanna Gleason, Academy Award nominee Chris Sarandon, and off-Broadway/regional theater actor Brian J. Carter will join TV, film, and theater star Melissa Joan Hart in the cast for a benefit play reading at Westport Country Playhouse this month.

The stars will read the romantic comedy "Any Wednesday" to support Westport Country Playhouse's Script in Hand series for the one-night-only event on Monday, July 29, at 7 p.m. The reading is directed by Annie Keefe, Playhouse associate artist.

Casting is Fairfield County-based: Hart and Caret are Westport residents; Gleason and Sarandon (who have been married since 1994) hail from Fairfield.

Tickets to the benefit play reading and post-performance "Meet the Cast" reception are $100, $50, and $25.

"Any Wednesday" is about four people: John (Sarandon), a million businessman and philanderer who visits his paramour in the executive suite every Wednesday; Ellen (Hart), his disarmingly innocent mistress; Dorothy (Gleason), his hoodwinked wife, and Cass (Carter), a young man who is an irate victim of his devious practices.

The romantic comedy by Muriel Resnik was a 1964 Broadway hit, according to a release from the Westport Country Playhouse. Sandy Dennis, Don Porter, Gene Hackman, and Rosemary Murphy starred in the original run. It was later made into a movie starring Jane Fonda and Jason Robards.

The Script in Hand series is supported, in part, by the White Barn program of the Lucille Lortel Foundation.
