WESTPORT COMMUNITY THEATRE continues its hit season with Herb Gardner's hilarious and heartwarming play "A Thousand Clowns," directed by David Jackins. The popular play, a Broadway success in the 1960s with a smash 2001 revival, introduces audiences to eccentric, unconventional Murray Burns, uncle to precocious 12-year-old nephew Nick. A non-conformist, Murray is tired of writing cheap comedy gags for the children's television star "Chuckles the Chipmunk," and finds himself unemployed. Hounded by "the system," Murray is paid a visit by social worker Sandra Markowitz… complications ensue… and Murray must decide whether to accept some level of conformity or risk losing Nick…
Brad Shwidock stars as Murray Burns, in this play described by the New York Daily News as "Filled with laughter and warmth and sweetness and inspired daffiness... one of the quintessential New York comedies." Westport Community Theatre brings to its stage the talents of Jessica Denes, Michael Sean Fleischner, Kyle Runestad, Philip Schaefer and Rick Waln, who create some of most memorable characters on any stage.
"A Thousand Clowns" runs February 10 - 26, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm, Sundays at 2:00 pm, and Thursday, February 16 at 8:00 pm.
