Bollywood Film Screening

Want to know more about Islam and the Muslim experience in America? In the week of January 9, WestportREADS 2011 will present two programs addressing these issues. Both programs are free and open to the public, and will be held in the Library's McManus Room.

On Sunday, January 9, at 1:30 pm, the 2010 film My Name Is Kahn, directed by Karan Johar, will be screened (160 min.; Hindi, with English subtitles). The highest-grossing Bollywood film ever overseas, this is the story of an autistic Muslim man from India living in San Francisco who meets a vivacious single mother. After the 9/11 attacks, fate and tragedy conspire to tear them apart, and Kahn embarks on an inspiring journey to prove his loyalty.

On Wednesday, January 12, at 7:30 pm, in a program entitled "A Muslim, a Christian, a Jew—Three Women Search for Understanding," the authors and founders of The Faith Club, Ranya Idliby, Suzanne Oliver, and Priscilla Warner, will talk about how they met after 9/11 to try to make sense of their different religions for their children—and themselves.
