Westport Community Theatre presents "Company" – music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by George Furth – directed by Mark Graham with musical direction by Stan Wietrzychowski, choreograph by Liz Milwe, production design by Peter Ling and stage managed by Bethany Schalow. "Company" runs June 8 – July 1, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM, Sundays at 2:00 PM and Thursday, June 14 at 8:00 PM.

The pulsating rhythms of New York City underscore this Tony award-winning show, considered by many to have ushered in the modern era of musical theatre. On his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor Robert contemplates his unmarried state. He seems to have everything: good looks, charm, and a great sense of humor – and nevertheless, he is still single. In hilarious vignettes, Company follows Robert through a series of encounters with April (the stewardess), Kathy (the girl who's going to marry someone else), Marta (the "peculiar" one), as well as with those “good and crazy people," his married friends, as Robert watches and learns... and weighs the pros and cons of married life – and the wonders and pitfalls of relationships – and the simple joy of "being alive."

Winner of six Tony Awards (including “Best Musical”) when it premiered on Broadway in 1970, "Company" continues to enthrall audiences and critics, most recently winning the Tony Award for “Best Musical Revival” in 2006, and enjoying an acclaimed sold-out run at the New York Philharmonic in 2011. It's fresh – acerbic – innovative – and original. It's a "must" for all Stephen Sondheim fans – the music is timeless, refreshing, unique and memorable, the kind of music and lyrics that stay with the audience for days afterward.

The talented cast includes Christopher Wilkes as Bobby along with Lynda Abshire, Bill Adams, Lisa Dahlstrom, Emily Hughes, Patrick Kiley, Leslie Leeman Uhl, Betty McCready, Christopher Rich, Marion Richard, Rachel Rothman-Cohen, Cami Shore, Frank Sisson and Geoffrey Weglarz.

Tickets are $23 – $25; for reservations and information go to (203) 226-1983 or go to westportcommunitytheatre.com for directions. There is a senior discount of $2, groups of 10 or more enjoy a $2 per ticket discount, and there is a special "Student Rush" discount 15 minutes prior to performances for students of all ages with a valid student identification card.

This is a wonderful and creative production. The actor who plays Bobby is particularly outstanding.

Why is it the panel for this event does not include a single advocate for gun-owners' rights? WithRead More all due respect to Chief McNamara, why does the panel no include a person who can speak to gun safety from a gun-owning civilian's perspective? ML, you claim that the assembled folks "do not offer judgements about gun ownership" but they are not including a single voice that can offer perspective on gun ownership. I have been to "education" sessions sponsored by Meg's March for Change and they are one-sided indoctrinations into gun control advocacy. >>>> I was in Hartford for the public hearings in January when both Meg and March co-founder Nancy gave their personal testimonies and they all but threatened the legislators on the panel with election day retribution for all those who did not tow the gun-control line of thinking (i.e. March and CAGV). To suggest that Meg "does not offer judgements" is fallacious and disingenuous.
