Staples Players proudly present “Into The Woods” in the main stage theatre at Staples High School in Westport, CT. “Into The Woods” features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. The show was originally directed on Broadway by James Lapine. The Staples Players production is directed by David Roth and Kerry Long. Performances are on March 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th at 7:30pm and on March 18th at 2pm.
“Into The Woods” tells the tale of a Baker and his Wife, who are trying to break a witches spell in order to have a child. On their quest they encounter several fairytale characters that are also on their own journeys.
Cinderella attends the ball, Jack climbs the beanstalk and Little Red meets up with the big bad wolf at her grandmothers’ house.
Its not often that the cast of a high school production includes a Tony Award winning actress. However, Joanna Gleason who played the Bakers Wife in the original Broadway production of “Into The Woods”, graciously donated her time visiting with the cast, and lending her voice as the role of The Giant's Wife in this show.
This is the first Staples Players production choreographed by Liz Milwe who replaced Joanne Kahn this winter. Dave Seltzer has returned as technical director with Peter Barbieri Jr. as the set designer and lighting consultant. The musical direction is courtesy of Justin Miller and Adele Valocich will be conducting the Pitt orchestra. The show’s costumes are intricately designed as always by Marjorie Watt and Priscilla Stampa.
