Westport Historical Society presents "A Tour of the Legendary White Barn"

May 12, 2012 2pm

$10.00. Donation. For reservations: call the Westport Historical Society, 203 222-1424.

Join us for a one of kind opportunity to peek inside the legendary White Barn Theatre founded by renowned Westport actor and impresario, Lucille Lortel. First opened in 1947, Lortel and husband Louis Schweitzer transformed an old horse barn into a showcase for daring plays and new playwrights, composers, actors, directors and designers. It went on to become one of the greatest experimental theatres of the twentieth century.

This special tour will be led by former White Barn general manager Mark Graham, accompanied by British stage designer Peter Ling. In addition to the tour of the Theatre and grounds – where Lortel’s private residence still stands - the event will include a reading followed by refreshments in the garden.

Please meet at the White Barn Theatre, on Newtown Turnpike (near the corner of Cranbury Road). From Westport, take Route 33 to Newtown Turnpike.
