Young Musicians Raise Money for Haiti Relief

"Kids for Kids" performed at the Unitarian Church in Westport Sunday.

After a devastating earthquake struck Haiti in January, Coleytown Elementary School student Luke Sauer wanted to do something to help.

At the time, the fourth grader donated money he received from a local theatrical workshop but he also knew there was more he could do.

He decided that he and other young musicians could perform together to raise money for kids in Haiti affected by the 7.0-magnitude quake and its aftershocks. They formed a group called "Kids for Kids Young Musicians for a Charitable Cause."

On Sunday afternoon, the local students who banded together to form "Kids for Kids" showcased their talent to a large turnout at the Unitarian Church in Westport.

The performance was led by Richard Weildlich from Western Connecticut State University and The New Cannan Performing Arts Conservatory.  In addition to the performance, jewelry by "amy d. designs" was for sale in which all the profits would go to Westport-based Save the Children, which has been helping Haitian children and families recover since the earthquake left many homeless and without basic  life necessities.
