Full 'Steam' Ahead: Coffee Shop Opens at Greens Farms RR Station

Those who looked forward to grabbing their morning coffee at Greens Farms C&P -- now closed -- have a new option at the Greens Farms railroad station: Steam Coffee Bar.

Steam officially opened on Monday and is adjacent to the New York-bound platform.

Though it's only been a few days, Steam has gotten "a great response from the community and commuters," co-owner Briana Pennell said.

Pennell, a Norwalk resident and Weston native, is a trained pastry chef and graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. Her business partner, Chris Barrett, is a UConn graduate and longtime restaurant professional who has worked in eateries in New Orleans and the Northeast.

The two have designed a menu of local Connecticut and New York favorites. Steam brews Raus Coffee and Arogya tea and serves baked goods and gluten-free goodies, sandwiches, and juice from places like The Stand and the Farmer's Cow. You can view the full menu here.

"We're getting some great local stuff," Pennell said. The shop also offers yogurt parfaits, organic fruits, and will soon serve up oatmeal.

Not heading into the city? No problem -- Steam wants to help you put together your lunch for the beach.

"We're trying to pick up some of the beach traffic," Pennell said. Stop by, grab your iced drinks and sandwiches, and head on your way to Compo Beach.

Steam is open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m., but hours could be extended in the future.

Pennell and Barrett will soon be expanding to the Saugatuck station -- they'll set up shop on the New Haven-bound side of the tracks. 

"That will be our next venture," Pennell said.
