Post 154: Restaurant Construction Begins at Old Westport Post Office

A new downtown restaurant, being constructed inside of the old Westport Post Office, will feature outdoor dining, a large bar and a room for private parties.

A trend seems to be setting in downtown as several new restaurants have opened their doors for business over the course of one year.

Post 154 will soon join the list that includes the Spotted Horse Tavern, Arezzo, Pink Sumo Sushi and Sake Cafe and Moja Café.

The restaurant construction, which began in early February, will take approximately four months to complete, according to broker Franco Fellah. The outdoor-dining patio doors have already been installed and the landlord, an Atlanta-based company, has completed its portion of the construction.

Centrally located on a lively commercial block downtown at the corner of Bay Street and Post Road East, Post 154 will neighbor businesses like Patagonia, Urban Outfitters and Finalmente Trattoria.

The restaurant will boast a large bar on the main floor, a reception area in the basement, and outdoor dining on Bay Street, Fellah said.

This is the first time the building has been available since it was built in 1935. The building is more than 9,500 square feet including the basement and boasts an 80-foot frontage on Post Road East.

The building was initially appraised at $3.2 million. The Atlanta-based landlord bought the property last year for $2.3 million.

The Westport Post Office relocated to the Playhouse Square Shopping Plaza, 275 Post Road East, on January 3, 2012. The Post Office's last day of business at 154 Post Road East was December 31, 2011.
