Downtown Westport just got a whole lot sweeter.
At 7 a.m. today, United States Postal Service workers were the first customers to indulge at the just-opened Michele’s Pies at 180 Post Road E. For weeks the postal workers, who work right next door, were asked when exactly the shop would open.
Michele’s Pies first opened in Norwalk three years ago. Since then, Michele Albano, the owner and Westport native, has been at a fast clip. The bakery offers a variety of flavors and sizes, in addition to coffee, pastries and frozen potpies.
Each of Michele’s Pies is made “by hand, with love,” and contains only fresh, seasonal ingredients. “No canned or frozen fruit is ever used in our pies. Even the pumpkins we use for our pies are pureed by us. Therefore, you will only find the fruit that we can get our hands on at the time,” said Albano.
There are plans for outdoor seating once the weather warms up.
