Westport Sunglass Hut to Reopen Following 6-Month Closure from Hurricane Sandy

The Sunglass Hut located at 74 Main Street in downtown Westport is scheduled to reopen sometime around May 13, according to Dan Gibson, construction site manager.

Some downtown Westport retailers struggled for months to reopen following Hurricane Sandy, which hit the Connecticut coastline in late October 2012.

Many stores were able to bounce back and open for business weeks after Hurricane Sandy hit. When Sunglass Hut reopens next month, they will have been closed for nearly seven months.

“Apparently they were battling with FEMA and the insurance (company) on who was going to pay for what,” said Dan Gibson, construction site manager.

While flood repairs at Sunglass Hut have been completed, the floors are still being installed and the interior is being painted, according to Gibson.

Installing plumbing fixtures and the security system will be the final construction item to be completed before Sunglass Hut reopens in mid May, Gibson said.
