Westport Resources Achieves Top Rankings for Second Quarter 2013

Westport Resources (www.westportresources.com), a leading independent investment and financial planning firm serving individuals, families, municipalities and institutions around the world, is pleased to announce that several of its proprietary investment strategies received top rankings through the second quarter of 2013 from investment research firms Informa Investment Solutions and Morningstar.

From Informa’s PSN manager ranking database (the longest running investment manager database in North America), Westport Resources’ Special Income strategy (managed by Joseph Tatusko) is impressively ranked first for the past three years in the Global Fixed Income Universe category. The strategy also earned “Best of the Best Top Guns” status for second quarter as well for the past year. “Top Guns” status means the strategy was among the top ten performers in its respective peer group.

From Morningstar, Westport Resources’ Absolute Total Returns (Long/Short Equity) strategy (managed by Shawn Blau) received the highest possible ranking of five stars “overall.”  It is also notably five-star ranked for three and five years with “above average” risk. Additionally, Westport Resources’ Special Income (Aggressive Allocation) and Exchange-Traded Fund (World Stock) strategies (both managed by Tatusko) and its Diversified Value (Large Blend) strategy (managed by William Matthes) are ranked four stars for five years with “low” risk ratings in their respective categories.  Further, the firm’s Multi Cap Equity Focused strategy (managed by Ray Hofshi) is ranked four stars over five years with an “average” risk rating in its respective category.

Morningstar rates investment strategies from one to five stars based on how well they've performed in comparison to similar strategies. Within each Morningstar category, the top 10 percent of strategies receive 5 stars and the next 22.5 percent receive 4 stars. Strategies are rated for up to 3 time periods (3, 5 and 10 years) and these ratings are combined to produce an overall rating.

“It is significant when strategies perform well over an extended period with ‘low’ or ‘average’ risk,” John Vaccaro, CEO of Westport Resources, said. “I congratulate Shawn, Joe, Bill and Ray for achieving this accomplishment. I also commend our team for consistently – every quarter – receiving GIPS® verification.  Doing so requires extraordinary discipline and accuracy.”
