Winning Foursome From Westport Resources Charity Golf Classic Donates $5,000 to Kids in Crisis

Westport Resources, a leading independent investment and financial planning firm serving individuals, families, municipalities and institutions around the world, is very pleased to announce that a winning foursome from its recent Charity Golf Classic has chosen Kids in Crisis as the nonprofit organization to receive a $5,000 grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation (FCCF).

During the Charity Golf Classic (held Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at The Connecticut Golf Club) golfers participated in a contest to answer quiz questions about Fairfield County’s community needs.  The foursome with the most correct answers won a $5,000 grant from FCCF to contribute to a local charity of its choice.

“We chose Kids in Crisis because its mission is to protect infants, children and teens from abuse and family crisis,” the foursome’s William Durkin, operations manager for Westport Resources, said.  “We’re very happy for this grant to help children and families in need.”

The foursome also included Rob Diemar, Michael Higgins and Michael Row of Pershing LLC, the clearing firm for Westport Resources.

Juanita T. James, president and CEO of FCCF, said: “It’s joyful to see people get a clearer grasp on how they can make a difference in Fairfield County. This foursome selected a wonderful local nonprofit that matches their values—protecting vulnerable children.”

Shari Shapiro, executive director of Kids in Crisis, added:  “The Kids in Crisis shelter program provides one-of-a-kind, 24-hour crisis intervention, emergency shelter, medical care and therapeutic support services to children of all ages who have been abused, neglected, abandoned and are not safe in their homes. Funding from the Fairfield County Community Foundation will continue to help us provide families in our area with the care and services they so desperately need.”

John Vaccaro, founder and CEO of Westport Resources, said:  “We are pleased that our Charity Golf Classic helped raised awareness and support of our community’s needs.  Congratulations to our winning foursome and to Kids in Crisis.”

Westport Resources’ Charity Golf Classic raised $55,000 for Fairfield County Community Foundation (FCCF). The firm underwrote the entire cost of the event, allowing 100 percent of the funds raised to be contributed directly to FCCF.
