5 Things About Westport: May 16

A historic day for SpaghettiOs.

  • When it comes to downtown, what do Westporters want? A poll posted on the Westport Patch Facebook page asks this question, and so far 900 votes have been cast. A movie theater tops the list, but some people also suggested a Pokemon gym (that’s a bit less feasible). Polling is still open, so feel free to vote.
  • A local man broke into a Westporter’s home and , according to police. Tyler Horn, 22, of Godfrey Road was arrested this weekend and the victim was hospitalized. The two people apparently knew each other, said police.
  • Some questioned whether Gov. Dannel P. Malloy would be able to get $2 billion in union concessions in order balance Connecticut’s budget. On Friday, of that has been given up by the unions. The specifics of the deal are unknown, but the governor is pleased with the progress.
  • On this day in 1965, the Campbell Soup Company introduced SpaghettiOs to American consumers.
  • After a wet weekend, the rain is expected to continue. There will be periods of drizzle all day, and showers expected at night. Up to a half of an inch of rain is possible.
