5 Things All About Westport: August 17

"Energize Your Job Search" at the Westport Library; Board of Selectmen to meet; The Zinghoppers at Levitt Pavilion and more.

  • The Board of Selectmen will meet at 10 a.m. in Room 309 at Town Hall. Among other agenda items, the board will consider approving “a lease termination agreement between the Town of Westport and Westport GVI Town Farm, Inc. as relates to the town-owned property known as , 134 Cross Highway.”
  • Looking to “Energize Your Job Search?” By attending this program at the Westport Library at 9:30 a.m. today you can learn how to gain an advantage by using valuable online tools such as Reference USA, LexisNexis and Business & Company Resource Center. Learn how to identify your key companies, spot industry trends, and get in-depth background information for greater success in networking and interviewing. The event begins with informal networking at 9:30 a.m. followed by the seminar, which runs from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
  • The children’s group “” will perform at the Levitt Pavilion at 7 p.m. Led by the husband and wife team of Kitty and Jack Norton the group brings “preschool pop” to “a whole new level.” The concert is free.
  • Today is going to be one of those flawless beach days: According to the National Weather Service, 85 degrees, clear skies, humidity at about 73 percent. Let’s just hope the town opens the beaches to swimming — they have been due to the weekend’s heavy rains.
  • Wouldn’t it be great if there were a simple, informal way for your child to meet other children entering kindergarten this fall? Well there is — and it’s right at your child’s school playground. The program at is set up just for this purpose. These “playdates on the playground” can serve as an ideal forum for your child to meet his or her future classmates before the first day of school. Come meet incoming kindergarteners and parents at the Long Lots Elementary School playground from 3 to 5 p.m. today. (Note: No food, water or bathrooms will be available at the facility.)
