5 Things All About Westport: July 14

Coyotes at Sherwood Island, 'Expert Minds' at the Westport Arts Center and more.

(Editor’s note: Two items in today's “5 Things All About Westport,” the Westport Farmer’s Market and the Sunset Lecture Series at Sherwood Island on coyotes, were erroneously listed in yesterday's "5 Things." Patch apologizes for the error.)

  • The will be open today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Imperial Avenue Commuter Lot. The market is open every Thursday until Nov. 3. This is in addition to Westport’s other farmer’s market, held at the Saugatuck Congregational Church on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Want to learn more about coyotes? Then head on out to Sherwood Island for “Coyotes!” This educational program, which starts at 6 p.m., is being presented as part of the Friends of Sherwood Island State Park’s Sunset Lecture Series. Chris Vann, a nuisance wildlife biologist with the state DEP, will discuss the biology and control of Eastern Coyotes in Connecticut.
  • The Westport Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, July 14, at 6:30 p.m. in Town Hall.  On the agenda is the review of proposed Text Amendment 635, which will lift a restriction on new dining establishments that plan to serve liquor in that they will no longer need to obtain a special permit from the commission, in addition to the permits they must obtain from the state Department of Consumer Protection. The commission will also be reviewing a plan for a new mixed-used project at 1135 Post Road East, the current location of Geiger's Garden Centers.
  • Up for some mind stimulating conversation? A diverse range of environmental experts will be ready to engage with you in a round table setting during “” tonight starting at 7 p.m. at the Westport Arts Center. During this unique event, which is being presented in partnership with Green Village Initiative, participants have the opportunity to engage in intimate collaborative 15- minute conversations with these experts, creating an exchange of information.
  • The Westport Country Playhouse’s production of “Lips Together, Teeth Apart,” by Terrence McNally and directed by Mark Lamos, What is really cool about the stage set is that it includes an actual swimming pool.
