5 Things All About Westport: July 28

Staples Players' Summer Theatre production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" opens; Doobie Brothers at the Levitt and more.

  • The Staples Players' Summer Theatre production of the Andrew Lloyd Weber-Tim Rice classic rock opera, “,” opens tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Staples High School Auditorium. Sponsored by Westport's Continuing Education Summer School and , performances will also be held Friday, July 29, and Saturday, July 30. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.
  • Dying for some truly local produce? You can find a bounty of Connecticut-grown produce at the , open today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Imperial Avenue Commuter Lot. The market is open every Thursday until Nov. 3. This is in addition to Westport’s other farmer’s market, held at the Saugatuck Congregational Church on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • The Doobie Brothers is one of those bands that saw its sound change through the 1970s and 1980s, due mainly to personnel changes, but somehow continued to top the charts throughout it all. The band, which has a new album out, will be performing at the . Don't miss this opportunity to see this legendary Grammy Award winning rock group. This is one of a handful of paid concerts at the Pavilion this season.   • Dan Esty, Commissioner of the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP), will hold a talk entitled “Connecticut Parks: Back to the Future” at 6 p.m. tonight at Sherwood Island State Park. Etsy is expected to discuss plans and ideas for the future of our state parks, including the greening of state parks, maximizing social networking to attract visitors, the rationale behind the newly created Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, and other topics. This educational program for adults and teens is being presented as part of the Friends of Sherwood Island State Park’s Sunset Lecture Series, and is co-sponsored by Green Village Initiative (GVI).
