5 Things All About Westport: June 23

The Career Coach returns to Town Hall, lecture on black bears at Sherwood Island, last week for "The Circle" and more

  • Residents who wish to improve their computer skills will be interested to know that The Career Coach, a “training center” tour bus equipped with 10 wireless computer labs offering free computer classes, will be at Town Hall today. Instructors will offer a beginner’s class in Excel 2007 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon; followed by an intermediate class in Excel 2007 from 1 to 3 p.m. The mobile unit operates on a monthly schedule of visits to various community locations and is accessible to people with disabilities.   • The will be open today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Imperial Avenue Commuter Lot. More than dozen vendors will be offering everything from fresh produce to pizza to honey to yoga lessons. The market is open every Thursday until Nov. 3. This is in addition to Westport’s other farmer’s market, held at the Saugatuck Congregational Church on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Ever find your garbage can turned over in the morning and thought it was something bigger than a raccoon? The Sunset Lecture Series continues at Sherwood Island Park with a presentation by wildlife conservationist Felicia Ortner, “The Bear Reality: Connecticut’s Black Bears.” The lecture will begin at 6 p.m. Be sure to bring a picnic dinner and enjoy Sherwood Island’s late-afternoon beauty beforehand.
  • To help kids appreciate exercise and make it a regular part of their lifestyle, the Family Y of Westport and Weston is offering free one-year memberships to all seventh grade students in the Westport and Weston school districts. All a student has to do to get the free one-year membership is bring a school ID or report card to the YMCA and get a parent to sign them up. To learn more, .
  • If you haven’t seen it yet, “The Circle” by W. Somerset Maugham, and directed by Nicholas Martin, is in its last week at the Westport Country Playhouse. The last three shows at 8 p.m. tonight, tomorrow and Saturday. A scintillating and witty comedy of manners, “The Circle” seamlessly blends romance and repartee.
