5 Things All About Westport: May 31

Many people may have been on vacation, but it was a lively Memorial Day weekend in Westport.

  • The Staples baseball team won their third FCIAC title in four years with a 5-3 victory over Danbury. It was a huge win, and from the game.
  • Westport had another huge Memorial Day ceremony (but the parade was canceled due to rain). Tracy Sugarman, a WWII veteran was the grand marshal, in an interview.
  • A controversial plan to develop Baron's South into affordable housing for seniors and a nursing facility hit a roadblock when an amendment was . The Planning and Zoning Committee of the Representative Town Meeting convenes tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall to consider whether or not to recommend overturning the amendment.
  • The New England Fertility Clinic on 33 Imperial Ave. just came to town and is having an Look for a full story on the new business soon.
  • In other sports news, the Staples boys volleyball team wa by Darien last week. It was a tough loss for the strong team.
