5 Things All About Westport: Oct. 11

Twelfth Night opens at Westport Country Playhouse, jazz pianist Christian Sands at Westport Arts Center, and more.

  • The ’s final production for the fall season, “Twelfth Night, Or What You Will,” written by William Shakespeare, and directed By Mark Lamos, opens tonight, October 11.  The production, which runs through November 5, is a “story of illusion, deception, disguise, madness and the extraordinary things one will do for love.”
  • Numerous town boards and commissions are meeting today including the Human Services Commission at 8:30 a.m., the Board of Education at 7:30 p.m., the Zoning Board of Appeals at 7:30 p.m., and the Architectural Review Board at 7:30 p.m. All are at Town Hall except for Board of Education, which will meet at Staples High School.
  • Cyrus Paktinat, owner and designer of The FlowerFall of Westport, as well as an artist and poet, will be demonstrating and sharing his secrets for fall seasonal arrangements and Thanksgiving décor during today’s meeting of the Westport Woman’s Club, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the club located at 44 Imperial Avenue. The program, presented by the club’s Garden Department, is open to the public however seating is limited. Call 203-227-4240 to reserve a seat.
  • Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Christian Sands will be performing at 5 p.m. at the , 51 Riverside Ave. Known as a “rising star in the world of Jazz known for his outstanding piano-playing,” Sands “takes a fresh look at the entire language of jazz: stride, swing, bebop, progressive, fusion, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban. The concert will be a tribute to jazz pianist Dr. Billy Taylor, who was a founder of Jazz education and a strong supporter of Sands as a young artist.
