A Week for the Girl Scouts

First Selectman Gordon Joseloff speaks to local troops about leadership.

As Girl Scouts across America celebrate "Girl Scout Month" and the 98th anniversary, First Selectman Gordon Joseloff honored local troops Thursday at Town Hall by proclaiming this week to be "Girl Scout Week" in Westport.

Joseloff presented a plaque to the Girl Scouts, Brownies and Daisies of Westport, from local elementary and middle schools, for their hard work and achievements and recognized that scouting is a good place to learn about leadership, values and achievement.

While making the proclamation, Joseloff said there are 50 million former Girl Scouts in America. After the presentation, he gave the Girl Scouts a look at some of the Town Hall departments and spent some time with them in a large conference room where he talked about how the Town of Westport is governed.

The girls seemed to have a lot of fun with the question-and-answer session and learned how he was elected, what other jobs he had before and also that his leadership and achievement skills were probably encouraged when he was .... you guessed it, a Boy Scout.
