American Cancer Society to Hold ‘Making Strides’ Kickoff Breakfast

Event promotes Westport 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer' walk to be held Sunday, October 30, at Sherwood Island.

The American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Westport Kickoff Celebration” is set for 8 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, at the Norwalk Inn.

The event promotes the annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Westport” walk, which is set for Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Sherwood Island State Park.

During the Kickoff Celebration, people whose lives have been touched by breast cancer will share their experiences. Attendees will also learn how the American Cancer Society is currently “making strides toward a world with less breast cancer more birthdays.”

“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” honors and celebrates breast cancer survivors and supports the Society’s mission to fight cancer by funding cancer research and promoting education and awareness. Since it’s inception in 1993, nearly 7 million walkers nationwide have raised more than $400 million. In 2010, more than 800,000 walkers across the country collected more than $60 million.
