“This is an exciting and timely event for the revolution of electric cars in America. Electric cars get very little attention in this region of the country, yet Westport is a leading community in the state and nation,” said Westport Electric Car Club President Leo Cirino.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. at the Saugatuck train station. Cars will have a pit stop at noon at the Fairfield Earth Day Celebration at Ward High School. The rally will end at about 1 p.m. at the Saugatuck train station. Free sliders and live music will be offered at the Blu Parrot by owner Adam Lubarsky following the rally, according to the news release.

“The Road Rally is our way of being proactive in showing that electric cars are real, practical and can make a difference in energy resource sustainability,” said Westport Building Inspector Steve Smith.

This event follows the April 1 unveiling of the solar panel roof on the eastbound Saugatuck train station, which was attended by Governor Dannel Malloy.

Rally vehicles will include the Fisker Karma, Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, and the Tesla Model S, which won the Motor Trend 2013 Car of the Year Award.
