Westport First Selectman Urges Residents to be Patient with Power Outages

First Selectman Gordon Joseloff stressed CL&P to pay special attention to Compo Beach, Saugatuck Shores and to the schools when conducting repairs.

It could be a week or more before all of Westport’s residents have their power restored, First Selectman Joseloff said in a phone interview Monday afternoon.

“We don’t know; we are guessing,” he said. “They are doing their best. Some people got their power on last night, but some won’t get it for days.”

CL&P was able to restore most of downtown’s power, including the library's. Another major priority Joseloff stressed to crews was to clear the roads of tress and wires, something that could potentially present a dangerous situation. Areas with water damage will also receive special attention.

“Don’t forget a half million people are out of power in the state of Connecticut. We have made progress,” Joseloff said, noting 71 percent of Westport was initially in the dark, a number that has decreased to 60 percent. “At least the needle is not stuck (on 71 percent),” he said.

“Be sure, what can be done is going to be done,” he said.
