Gov. Malloy to Hold 9/11 Memorial at Sherwood Island

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, on behalf of the State of Connecticut, will hold a memorial service Thursday for the state's victims of Sept. 11, 2001 at Sherwood Island State Park.

The sculpture made in part from aluminum cladding from the World Trade Center will also be unveiled, honoring those the state lost. In addition, an American flag that flew over Forward Operating Base Mehtar Lam in Afghanistan will be presented to the state by the 1st Battalion 102nd Infantry Regiment. Family members of those who were killed on 9/11 will join the memorial service, and each victim’s name will be read aloud.

The service will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 8.
