Grab & Go Kids Planner: Youth Night, Free Concert, Cartoons

This week, take your tweens and teens to a fun hangout night at the Y, enjoy a free concert with the family, and shop around a local tag sale to benefit Fairfield County charities.

This week, take your tweens and teens to a fun hangout night at the Y, enjoy a free concert with the family, and shop around a local tag sale to benefit Fairfield County charities.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK 

 

Where/When:   on Wed., Mar. 9 from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Why Go: This is a drop-off program for children in grades K-5 and features fun activities related to science. This session will explore electricity - how we use it today and fun experiments like lighting up a light bulb using a plastic comb, creating a battery out of a lemon, and more.
Pricing:   $18 non-members, $8 members. Registration required.


Where/When: Pequot Library in Southport on Sat., Mar. 12 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go: 2008 Queen Elizabeth Competition winner and violinist Ray Chen, will present a concert appropriate for ages 5-17.
Pricing:   FREE (Adults welcome when accompanying students or with a suggested donation.)

Where/When: on Fri., Mar.11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Check out this tag sale event to buy items including furniture, collectibles, housewares, home accessories, hostess gifts, linen, artwork, toys, and more.  All proceeds go to Fairfield County charities.
Pricing:   FREE Admission.

Where/When: on Sat., Mar. 12 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Why Go: This event turns the Y into a modern-day clubhouse for tweens and teens and is open to all students in grades 4-7, not just Y members. Time to hang out with friends, neighbors and classmates for basketball, games, inflatables, swimming, and even karaoke – even make your own sundae with all the fixings. Parent volunteers are always welcome – and children of volunteers get in free.
Pricing:   $12 pre-purchased at the Y or online at www. westporty.org // $15 at the door.

Where/When:   Monday, March 14, 2011 3:30pm–4:45pm
Why Go: This is a 6-session workshop for kids in grades 5-8 who are looking to  develop their doodling skills and learn how to create new characters - cartoon style. Taught by Westport artist, Elizabeth DeVoll, with guest appearances by local cartoonists. 
Pricing:
 $175.  Limited enrollment, sibling discounts available.
