Gun Violence Group Hopes To Pass Comprehensive Reform

A Fairfield-based gun violence advocacy group aims to help the Nutmeg State pass the most comprehensive gun violence prevention laws in the nation.

Connecticut Against Gun Violence is hosting events in Hartford and in Westport this week, which will "provide opportunities for members to lobby their legislators," according to a press release sent out by the group Sunday afternoon. 

“We believe that a historic vote on a comprehensive package of gun violence prevention legislation will happen very soon," CAGV Executive Director Ron Pinciaro said. "The people of Connecticut and the country are counting on our lawmakers to stop the proliferation of weapons designed for military and police use, and the magazines that feed them. These weapons are getting into the hands of civilians who are killing innocents. We are maximizing our effort and we will leave nothing on the table.”

Marty Isaac, the group's president, said for the first time, CAGV "has the resources to effectively compete with the opposition." 

"The days of being drowned out are over,” he said. 

Nancy Lefkowitz, co-founder of CAGV’s March For Change, said the group is on the precipice of making lasting change. 

“It's imperative that we remain active and engaged," Lefkowitz said. "It's encouraging that our efforts will produce results and this inspires us to continue to speak up for what we believe. We are the voice of a majority of the people and what the people want is bold legislative change to the state's current gun laws.”

The scheduled events will take place Wednesday morning in Hartford, and in Westport Wednesday evening and Friday morning. The advocacy group will also release an extensive online, print and radio ad campaign.
