Large Snowstorm Moving In

Westport Weather Whiz says if the air were not so dry this might be the 'storm of the decade.'

Westport Weather Whiz Jacob Meisel reports his predictions for the weekend snowfall:

Well, we certainly have a very large storm moving in.

This is a classic Nor' Easter, with just a few things keeping this from being the storm of the decade.

If the air were not so dry and there were a high to the north to spread out the precipitation, then we would be dealing with a large problem. Even though those are not occurring, we are still going to get a large storm.

As mentioned earlier, a Winter Weather Warning was issued for our region with 8 to 12 inches of snow.  That seems a little much considering all of the dry air, so I am going to forecast a little conservatively around the low end of the warning, 8 inches.  This is a lot of snow, and may be enough to cancel Candlelight concerts at Staples High School.

The snow will begin tomorrow between noon or three, give or take an hour or two.  It will pile up to about an inch by 6 or 7, maybe a little more, then the heavy stuff will move in.

Expect most of the snowfall between 7 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday — about 6 inches could accumulate in that time frame.  The snow should continue until around 10 Sunday morning with an additional inch or so.

No matter exactly how much snow we get, it will certainly be a lot and cause many traffic problems and activity cancellations.
