Longshore Women’s Golf Association Holds Annual Member Guest Tourney

Every tee was decorated to the theme of "America the Beautiful."

The held its 51st Annual Member Guest tournament at on Tuesday, July 12. 

The event was sponsored by Fairway Market, which donated and prepared breakfast, gave away prizes and provided goodie bags for 112 golfers.

Stamford Ford Lincoln donated a 2012 Focus for a hole in one, however there was no winner.

Every tee was decorated by members and guests to the theme of "America the Beautiful." Some examples were "Gettysburg Address," "Hot Dogs and Baseball (an American Tradition)," "Statue of Liberty-Welcome to America," and "Americas Gardens."

The day started with a fantastic, elaborate breakfast catered by Fairway Market. Following the breakfast was a shotgun at 8 a.m.

The format was a scramble. The winning team was Jane Dally, Pat Norton and their guests Judy Gamble and Marge Connelly.

Lunch was served at the Inn at Longshore. The day was filled with many gifts and gift baskets from Fairway Market, which club chairwoman Audrey Hertzel said made the day "very, very special."

“This event was successful because of the endless and tireless efforts of the 35 members and guests of the committee, which included Barbara Karis Downey, Gerri Taylor, Geraldine Hertzel, Joanne Reeves, Pam Gannon, Peggy Barton, Patty Kondub and Team Fairway," Hertzel said, adding that Team Fairway included Jackie Donovan, Mika Sneddon, Caroline Higgins, Mark Bradley and Diane Russo.

Highlights of the day included six winning foursomes going home with Fairway Market gift baskets and gift cards, and prizes for best dressed foursome and decorated cart voted by John Cooper, PGA.

Ten members and guests were also given prizes for closest to the pin on the course’s five par threes.
