UPDATE: Rescued Swimmer Dies After Being Hospitalized

The triathlete who was pulled by lifegaurds from Long Island Sound at Sherwood Island State Park Sunday passed away at Norwalk Hospital Monday.

Update: 12:00 p.m., Tuesday

62-year-old Robert Hartline passed away Monday after being pulled from the water during the Sherwood Island Sprint Triathlon, according to an obituary by Yalesville Funeral Home

Original story:

Hartline was at around 7:30 a.m. The man became 'distressed' while making the half-mile swim during the first portion of the competition, according to Cyndy Chanaca of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

In an attempt to revive the man, Westport EMS administered CPR when he was brought to shore on the East Beach before he was rushed to Norwalk Hospital.

The second annual Sherwood Island Sprint Triathlon includes a half mile swim in Long Island Sound, a 13-mile bike ride along the Westport shoreline and a 3.1-mile run through the state park.
